Pain Management
Safe, effective and convenient are our goals for pain management. When appropriate we use a unique combination of Celecoxib, Pregabalin and Acetaminophen. Cochrane, a world leader in evidenced based medicine, has found that drugs like Celecoxib when stacked with Acetaminophen manage pain more effectively than narcotic pain medications without many of the side effects. Pregabalin can also safely work to reduce certain kinds of dental pain. Learn more here, and here. We do not prescribe narcotic pain medications through teledentistry. In most cases dental pain can be reduced with medications, but not every case. Treatment will likely be required for complete relief, but medications can help while treatment can be arranged.
Infections and Antibiotics
Amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for dental infections, but there are alternatives for those who are allergic. Guidelines suggest antibiotics in dentistry be limited to either patients that are immunocompromised, or their dental infection has spread beyond their tooth. For example, symptoms like swelling, pus, fever, or malaise suggest that the infection is spreading and antibiotics are appropriate. Pain alone does not qualify patients for antibiotics. Antibiotics can help reduce infections and pain, but they cannot reach the bacteria inside of your tooth. Treatment will be required to cure your infection.
Canker Sores
Triamcinolone paste can help canker sores, or aphthous ulcers, go away in days instead of weeks. If you get canker sores you thank yourself for having this medication on hand.
Cold Sores
If started early on, medications like Valtrex can safely stop cold sores before they progress with only a few pills. Please tell us if you have HIV/AIDS, are immunocompromised, or have kidney issues.
